Upper School: Where Learning Comes to Life

Our Upper School School includes Grades 9-12.

Upper School is the final stretch in which we prepare students for university and career, helping them to pursue their hopes and dreams for their futures. Our students come to school daily to be challenged to think deeply about their studies, consider ideas from multiple perspectives, examine their learning critically, ask good questions, and apply their learning in unique ways.  Amidst the solid academic preparation they receive, we also empower students to find their voice, passions, and purpose as young people by building a shared sense of community, purpose, and responsibility in Upper School. Discover the advantage an IB Program holds for our students and graduates.

College Counseling

St. Andrew’s strives to partner with our families to help them apply to and select colleges and universities that help their students continue the path to their aspirations. This process is personalized for each family.

Our College Counselor, Wendy Sutton, brings 20+ years of experience to the process and is an invaluable resource to our students. She begins working with students in 9th grade to help them understand the expectations of the college application process and begins working more intently with individual families and students as they move towards graduation. Our students and families in Grades 11 and 12 receive one-on-one meetings and counseling sessions to help them develop their list of prospective colleges. They are guided through applications, deadlines, and financial considerations. The Grade 11 Class Trip is a college tour with our College Counselor to help students understand the different types of colleges and universities and the different aspects to consider in evaluating and selecting colleges. Students in Grade 12 meet several times yearly for instruction on the application process, recommendation letters, and essays.

With a strong academic foundation and knowledgeable college counseling, our alumni perform incredibly well in the admissions process and matriculation to the college they choose.  Again and again, we hear from our alumni that they were not only prepared for their university studies but often over-prepared and comparatively better skilled than peers they meet from other college preparatory programs. Nothing makes us more grateful than to know our students are poised to succeed in their studies and careers when they graduate from St. Andrew’s School.

IB at St. Andrew’s: A Future-Ready Education

How do you design learning to empower students to be able to “connect the dots”? Or, even more profound, how do you empower students to design the dots to be connected? The pace of change and the accessibility of information can feel overwhelming but learning the skills to synthesize information, think critically, and use their skills to make connections and apply learning is the hallmark of St. Andrew’s education...

Wish Maker and Role Model: Meghan Lowe ’03 Leads with Purpose and Passion

Meghan has made her mark in the fundraising arena. She has mastered the art of development working for the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, Historic Savannah Foundation and since 2018, for the Make-A-Wish organization. And Meghan has found a way to incorporate her job with her alma mater, having our students create cards for children who are part of the Make-A-Wish community. And for the past several years, she has carved out time to coach one of the St. Andrew’s Middle School Girls Basketball teams.
